I think we all know that Leo Komarov is a great guy. He’s a close friend of Nazem Kadri, and this has to be a mixed blessing sort of day for him. But there is no way that on the Leafs Komarov is worth even remotely that much.

He lost his playoff spot to Andreas Johnsson, he lost a step through the regular season and his offensive production, which was never the point really, fell off noticeably in the last two years.

This might be a bigger sign even than JvR going off and getting $7 million or Bozak getting $5 million, that the Leafs have ascended to a new level in the NHL where the money flows like water, but only for the right players.

Good luck on the Island, Leo, we loved you while you were here, but it really was time to go.
