Update: Mikhail Sergachev suspended two games for hit on Mitch Marner

Marner was hit after Hedman had already done enough to take a penalty.

UPDATE: The sentence is in; Sergachev will be suspended two games.

In Thursday’s game against the Lightning, Mitch Marner got a breakaway, was illegally impeded by Victor Hedman, who was going to get a penalty, or maybe even provoke a call for a penalty shot, when Mikhail Sergachev came in with the finishing blow:

Sergachev was assessed two minutes for an illegal hit to the head. At the time, Jon Cooper complained that Marner stayed on the ice for the power play after a head hit, which is frankly a valid question.

We’ll likely hear back on this quickly, as Player Safety has been doing phone hearings the same day.
