Just now the CBC is reporting that the NHL will get what it wants: a shorter quarantine for players coming in to Canada from US teams.

Earlier this week, Insider Trading reported that the Maple Leafs were the spearhead of this push to get all governments to allow a quarantine of less than the standard 14 days for incoming travellers.

Since players undergo regular testing and arrive on private planes, the expectation has been for some time that the various governments would come around on this point.

The trade deadline is April 12, and this measure will come just in time to make a meaningful difference to trading. It’s now clear that the choice by teams to stand pat and not trade early was likely wise.
