Bobby McMann has been traded to the Seattle Kraken in return for:

The second is the later of the Columbus or Winnipeg picks the Kraken own.

The Kraken are in the second wild card right now, but are not securely in the playoffs.

McMann, who turns 30 this June, has been with the Leafs for parts of four seasons, beginning in 2022-2023 when he played 10 games. He is an undrafted NCAA graduate who signed first with the Toronto Marlies in 2020 after he finished school. He received an NHL contract two years later at the then league-minimum amounts. In the spring of 2024, he was re-signed for two years at $1.35 million. That contract runs out this summer.

McMann has played an average of just over 15 minutes a night for Toronto this year, sometimes on the top line, and amount that has increased in each of his three final seasons in Toronto.

Fast, and an able goal-scorer, he has routinely scored a small amount over expected. His main impact other than his own shooting has been defensively prior to this season. That effectiveness has eluded him this year.

This is what the Leafs now have to replace: A player who can play a "middle six" role with some time spent on the second line, who is fast, physical and can shoot. Not an easy task.

McMann will be available himself come July 1 as a UFA.
