Please enjoy some weekend reading following NHL free agency. I have all the former Leafs (and some Marlies) who signed this summer for a new team. Later I'll have the former Leafs who got moved in trades. But first, here's the latest free agent signings from highest to lowest cap hit, separated by position.

Mason Marchment - SJS - $6.75 million for 5 years
Bobby McMann - SEA - $5.75 million for 6 years
Ilya Mikheyev - TBL - $3.85 million for 4 years
Alex Kerfoot - NSH - $3.5 million for 2 years
Scott Laughton - LAK - $3.5 million for 3 years
Noel Acciari - PHI - $2.8 million for 2 years
Kasperi Kapanen - EDM - $2.6 million for 1 year
Matias Maccelli - NYI - $2.25 million for 1 year
Curtis Douglas - SEA - $1.25 million for 2 years
Carl Grundstrom - PHI - $1 million for 1 year
Sammy Blais - OTT - $925k for 1 year
Nick Foligno - MIN - $900k for 1 year
Zach Aston-Reese - PHI - $875k for 2 years
Sam Lafferty - FLA - $850k for 1 year
Noah Gregor - WPG - $850k for 1 year

Luke Schenn - VAN - $2.25 million for 1 year
Zach Bogosian - MIN - $1.25 million for 1 year
Erik Gustafsson - LAK - $1 million for 1 year
Justin Holl - WSH - $900k for 1 year
Henry Thrun - WPG - $850k for 1 year

Samuel Ersson - OTT - $2.2 million for 2 years (does he count?)
Frederik Andersen - EDM - $1 million for 1 year
Calvin Pickard - MIN - $1 million for 1 year
David Rittich - NJD - $1 million for 1 year

I'm frankly shocked by the Ersson contract. It's pretty fun that Luke Schenn is still playing and making a healthy paycheque. Alex Kerfoot is in the top 5 contracts paid to former Leafs this week. Noel Acciari makes more than Kasperi Kapanen, which goes to show what playing centre gets you. Curtis Doulgas is making NHL money!

And some former Leafs who are still unsigned.

Michael Bunting
James van Riemsdyk
John Klingberg
Ben Hutton
Calle Järnkrok
David Kämpf
Ryan Reaves
Kevin Gravel

I'm mildly surprised Michael Bunting doesn't have a contract, but I think he's one of those players that doesn't actually do anything on the ice. This is something people are feeling about Matthew Knies right now. In terms of camp invites, I think we'll see him, Klingberg, and Kämpf at the very least. Calle Järnkrok wants to prove he can play for literally anyone but Craig Berube, I personally hope he gets that opportunity.

There were two NHL Trades featuring former Leafs (not traded by the Leafs). Sean Durzi went the other way when Vincent Trochek was traded from NYR to Utah. Ilya Lyubushkin is in Nashville now, traded from Dallas with Mavrik Bourque for some picks.

I guess the moral of the story is if you want to get paid, be a centre or score goals. If this is the end of JVR's career, it was a hell of a career and I hope he had the time of his life. Am I teeing Species up for a comment? Yes, I am.
