When the Maple Leafs made the playoffs for the first time with the new kids way back in 2017, I named Frederik Andersen the teams MVP. Last year, again, Andersen was a big reason why the Maple Leafs did so well.
For me, as a fan, to feel great about a high powered, big forward, all offense team, I want to have a goalie behind them I can feel safe about. Like when Pat Quinn was running the team in the late 90’s/early 00’s and the team had Curtis Joseph back there being the defense.
Michael Hutchinson and Garret Sparks have been okay. They’ve both had their wins and big moments, but I don’t feel safe. I don’t feel like we don’t need to worry. Sure, maybe I’m reacting to a big loss, but I just want my Freddie back.
The NHL will look to name an all star replacement for Carey Price quickly. Frederik Andersen has the top save percentage among No. 1's in the Atlantic Division, but isn't under consideration because of his groin injury.

This news, is great in that his injury is being treated seriously, and he’ll get all the time he needs. But also: THE ALL STAR GAME IS WEEKS AWAY WE’RE SCREWED.
Here’s some other news that will hopefully distract us.
Katya has an explainer about the recalls the Leafs have been using.
The Rangers are bad and it’s great.
The Sabres are getting worse, not better
Shea Weber took a puck to the face.
The Islanders are resorting knock-off NHL players
The Predators shutout some dumb te- moving on
No. You swoon dammit. SWOON.
Ugh. I’m going to go gut my flooded basement now.
Enjoy your day or whatever.
