With the trade deadline done and gone we don’t have much to look forward to aside from the playoffs, and they are so far, far, away. Instead of letting it go, I’m going to cling to it some more and check on how all the moves affected the Leafs.

Anaheim Ducks: Added Patrick Sieloff, one of the few players to try and murder their team mates. This is a good move for the Leafs because he’s no longer in our division.

Arizona Coyotes: Did nothing of note, as usual.

Boston Bruins: Added Charlie Coyle and Marcus Johansson for kinda cheap. These moves give the Bruins some depth and turn a one line team into a one and 2/3’s line team. Not great that the Leafs first round opponent improved.

Buffalo Sabres: Added Brandon Montour, did not do anything incredibly stupid. We beat them last night.

Calgary Flames: Added an AHL defender. No affect on the Leafs

Carolina Hurricanes: Traded Thomas Jurco for Cliff Pu. Did not trade Dougie Hamilton to the Leafs.

Chicago Blackhawks: Sent Darren Raddysh to the Rangers for Peter Holland. I wanted the elder vegetable. No affect, but made me a little sad.

Colorado Avalanche: Took Derrick Brassard from the Panthers. Made a division rival weaker.

Columbus Blue Jackets: Acquired Matt Duchene, Adam McQuaid, Keith Kinkaid, and Ryan Dzingel. They loaded up at the deadline, but are in a wild card spot. Shouldn’t bother the Leafs, if they play Tampa Bay i nround one these moves were a waste. No immediate harm,  aside from pulled muscles from laughing if they miss the playoffs.

Dallas Stars: Broke their new Mats Zuccarello the second they got him. Dragged up memories of this. Only mental pain from the Stars.

Detroit Red Wings: Got worse, which is much appreciated.

Edmonton Oilers: Stayed silent at the deadline, which is very much unappreciated. No dumb trades? I don’t like Keith Gretzky.

Florida Panthers: Got worse, which is much appreciated.

Los Angeles Kings: Didn’t do much, Gave the Caps Carl Hagelin, so maybe that was bad?

Minnesota Wild: Made moves that made them worse, then re-signed Eric Staal. NO affect on the Leafs, unless he wanted to be our 4th line centre.

Montreal Canadiens: Got grittier with Nate Thompson, added Jordan Weal - yeah, that will help you not blow a 3-0 lead next game. Thumbs down on no dumb moves, thumbs up on no good moves.

Nasvhille Predators: Added Wayne Simmonds for less than I thought it would cost. Now I’m a little, tiny bit mad he went there and not here? Also gave the Leafs Nick Baptiste which gave PPP the chance to out shine the other dumb blogs NHL trade posts with our AHL trade post. Good deadline from a Leafs perspective.

New Jersey Devils: Acquired Connor Carrick, which means their defense just become #1 in the NHL! No, kidding, it’s and insignificant. They did send Marcus Johansson to the Bruins, so the Devils deadline wasn’t great for the Leafs in a way that still makes the Devils and easy target for a win.

New York Islanders: Have made no trades since July 3rd, when they gave us Eamon McAdam for Matt Martin. Thanks again, Lou.

New York Rangers: Sent Adam McQuaid to Columbus, sent Kevin Hayes out west to Winnipeg, and Zuccarello to Dallas. Good moves from our perspective as most of their big names left the conference.

Ottawa Senators: Got much, much, worse for the next few seasons. Great deadline, I love it. Then the doomed GM gave us this quote:

Heart u Pierre

Philadelphia Flyers: Sent Wayne Simmonds to Nashville, and not Boston, so that’s great for us.

Pittsburgh Penguins: Got Chris Wideman and Erik Gudbranson to shore up their defense. Good for the Leafs as it helps to keep Crosby, Kessel, Malkin, etc.. out of the playoffs.

San Jose Sharks: Got Gustav Nyquist from the Red Wings. This could be trouble for the Leafs, making it harder for Marleau to lead Toronto in a sweep of his former team in the finals.

St. Louis Blues: Brought in Michael Del Zotto? Doesn’t affect Toronto, but is just weird.

Tampa Bay Lightning: Did absolutely nothing, still the best team in the league.

Vancouver Canucks: Gave the Penguins Gudbranson, so thanks.

Vegas Golden Knights: Got Mark Stone out of our division, then signed him for eight years. I love the Golden Knights!

Washington Capitals: Didn’t add much, Nick Jensen for D depth, Carl Hagelin for forward depth. They’re still mostly the same team so the Leafs stance on them has not changed.

Winnipeg Jets*: Biggest add was Kevin Hayes, gave us Nic Petan. Since they’re in the west there’s only slight chance this becomes bad for the Leafs, but they took a good player out of the conference, so it was good for us.

Toronto Maple Leafs: Did not bring Dougie Hamilton home. Bad deadline.

Now, the news.

The Leafs had a game last night, and won too!
