Last January, the Leafs lost a Saturday night match-up with the Vancouver Canucks despite a two goal lead in the first period. It turned out to be the final nail in the coffin on several Leaf careers, as the next morning saw Brian Burke swing two major deals with the Calgary Flames and Anaheim Ducks. Last night, the Leafs blew a two goal first period lead to the Vancouver Canucks on Hockey Night in Canada. Should we expect a similar move from Burke today? A major trade? A coaching change? Probably not. It's still too early in the season, as most teams still consider themselves players in the playoff race. And even though a coaching change could make a difference for this team, it seems unlikely that Burke will remove Wilson. So if no help is on the way, let's hope the Leafs can build on the solid play they produced last night and ignore that they are now back in the basement of the Eastern Conference.
