Update:

They were likely the only claim.

And it looks like they were.

Samuel Blais est cédé au Rocket.

With three forwards coming back on the roster from injury, and Jacob Quillan reportedly sent back to the AHL, one more roster spot was needed.

Blais was signed by the Canadiens this year and was waived on the last day of training camp when the Leafs claimed him. He has played in eight games for the Leafs and has one goal and two assists.

If the Canadiens claim him and no one else does, he is deemed to have cleared waivers and they can send him to the AHL if they wish. If there are other claims, he would require waivers on whatever team succeeds in getting him in order to be sent down.

If Blais clears, Toronto can send him to the minors, but they need to do it immediately. Because they need the roster space right now, they can designate him non-roster today, but that comes at the cost of an immediate demotion to the AHL within 24 hrs. The Marlies are at home today but are heading to Charlotte for two games starting on Friday.
