Teddy Blueger (he has anglicized his name to this version) is due to turn 32, and is a left-shooting centre/winger. He has a long career, and has spent the last three years in Vancouver.

He is just like the other bottom-six signings today, primarily a defensive player with good impacts on transition. He has some small offensive gifts.

It is extremely clear the direction of the Leafs, with some depth signings that aren't zippy wingers with a lot of goals and nothing else, is to actually create the offensive zone opportunities for the top six by not asking them to play so much defence.

Blueger suffered a lower body injury in the first half of last season, but came back and lived through the final couple months of the Canucks tank season. He played for Latvia at the Olympics as their first line centre. Blueger is widely regarded as a "character guy" and "culture guy".

Blueger had a lot of success with Dakota Joshua in Vancouver two years ago, he's historically strong on faceoffs, and he fought Radko Gudas last year. Looking at his pointz, he scored his own goals, but his teammates had terrible finishing, leading to a skewed goal ratio and poor assist count. He's got useful speed, good PK skills, and he's a reliable third line centre.

It was also his most injury-laden…

Rebuilds need veterans. The Vancouver Canucks need to add more prospects and youth as they aim for long-term success. That’s the exciting part of a rebuild: seeing young players take their first steps toward becoming future stars. The Canucks have too few future stars at the moment, but they’ll hopefully be adding one with…
