The Toronto Maple Leafs announced today that the hockey club has re-signed forward Steven Lorentz to a three-year contract extension. The average annual value of the contract is $1.35 million.
Lorentz came to the Leafs on a PTO, or more accurately a "PTO" in training camp. The Leafs signed him just before the season started as part of their cap management program.
Lorentz played 80 games for the Leafs, averaging 9.27 minutes at five-on-five. He also played 1.18 minutes per game shorthanded. He had a surprising eight goals (this is high for a fourth-liner) and 11 assists for 19 points. He's not a penalty taker, and his nine PIM last year was about standard for him.
He is 29 now, and plays a very physical game, hard on the forecheck and designed to keep the puck in the offensive zone for the next line out. He's well worth his contract, and fun too! You can't beat that.
