You may recall that yesterday, Frederik Andersen played one period in a loss to the Florida Panthers, and then never returned.

Frederik Andersen out with UBI after 1 period vs Panthers

After the game, several things were said by Sheldon Keefe, including this:

Which makes it seem like the Leafs were using an excess of caution in keeping Andersen out of the game. One could simply assume that Kaskisuo is on hand for the practice, which does require a formal callup.

Except for this:

If you don’t recognize that name, that’s because Gahagen was signed mid-season to an AHL deal after appearing for the Growlers, and playing well. The Growlers, who just win every game no matter what (32-11-0-1), have had some goalie injury troubles this season.

The Marlies play tonight at 7 p.m. at home, so this set of moves could still be just for today’s practice, and Gahagen may sit and watch Joseph Woll play tonight, or it might mean something far more sinister and terrifying. Under no circumstances should it mean Kaskisuo plays in the NHL, however.

We’ll let you know when we know more.

UPDATE: Gahagen might well deserve a look in the AHL:

Granted, the Growlers are likely the easiest team in pro hockey to play goal for, but he has been excellent.

UPDATE:

Andersen will not play in New York, and Michael Hutchinson will start:
