Maccelli is in the final year of a contract that pays him $3.425M and he expires as an RFA with arbitration rights.

Matias Maccelli is a Finn, 25 this fall, and he is a left-shooting winger. He was originally drafted by Arizona 98th overall and has three and a partial NHL seasons. Utah was upfront this summer that they were not interested in keeping him, and he did not play in every game.

He averaged just under 14 minutes a game this year when he did play, and had eight goals and 10 assists. That's fine for a fourth liner, but a little light for a third line winger.

He shoots at an okay rate for a depth player, and has decent if not outstanding Expected Goals. He is very similar in overall impact to Steven Lorentz, although he tilts a little more to the generating shots for skillset than the purely defensive.

He never seemed to click in Utah, so it's very hard to tell how well he would play in a different system with better players around him.

As is being reported, that season in the Liiga in 2019-2020 saw him near the top of the points chart for players his age. I think everyone since has been trying to unlock that player again.
