The Maple Leafs made their first trade of the 2026 deadline period, sending Nic Roy to Colorado.

Both picks are have conditions attached. The fifth rounder for 2026 will be the lowest of the three they have, almost certainly their own, as the other two originally belonged to the Flyers and the Bruins. The first-round pick is top-10 protected. Note this is the 2027 pick, and as the Leafs have proved, anything can happen from one year to the next, however, it is likely to be a low-quality pick.
The quality of the pick doesn't matter rhetorically. It's a first-rounder! But it will matter to other GMs who the Leafs will be trying to trade with.
Nic Roy was acquired by the Leafs from Vegas in exchange for the sign and trade that gave Vegas an eight-year deal for Mitch Marner. Often erroneously said to be a trade of Marner for Roy, the ability of Brad Trelving to get a player out of Vegas who performed well on the Leafs has now turned into two picks, one of which has some value.
I think it is extremely unlikely the Leafs will ever draft a player with this pick.
Roy has one more year on his contract at $3 million AAV. As of now there is no confirmation that there is or is not salary retention on this deal.
