Happy Monday everyone. I have extensively (honestly) researched the hockey scene from the last week and here's what I missed.
This is cool. I like this guy, and while he's not as good as his juiced up sh% season, he's capable of scoring at a bottom-six rate.
He had a terrible year last year in Vancouver by isolated impacts, and that's really interesting considering how dramatic it was a decline from the year before where he was a very effective third liner. You can't really say it's not him, he had similar teammates. Perhaps a general Vancouver Malaise is the answer. Or it's just the thing where results for players vary a lot year to year. If you like being ultra-pessimistic, this is a boon because you can always claim the player will be terrible.
But here's the thing, oh ye ultra pessimists, the Leafs have one asset. Cap space. And not much of it. The only way they're getting players is by shopping in the slightly overpaid department.
What else?
The Leafs signed Miroslav Holinka to his ELC, that's nice.
And... that appears to be it.
The Leafs have 15 forwards who played in the NHL last year if you count Nick Robertson who is unsigned as of yet, and 14 if you slice off Michael Pezzetta. This is not the final roster.
Arbitration hearings were meant to begin yesterday, but no one seems to have released the hearing dates.
Okay, how'd I do, did I miss anything important?
But more importantly, how are you all? Having a good summer so far, or pining away for hockey?
