The NHL is not known for moves that make you bring out the capslock.

Vegas Golden Knights Announce Changes to Team’s Coaching Staff | Vegas Golden Knights
John Tortorella has been named the team’s head coach

What the HELL is going on here?

Well, one thing is that Vegas has been doing some losing lately. They got beat by the Oilers, the Jets (the Jets!) and the Capitals all in a row. And the past few weeks have been grim. Interestingly, that mostly seems to be special teams being a bit less than excellent. And they should have a better power play than they do, because if your power play doesn't sing with Mitch Marner on it, well give him back. Losers. Ahem. Anyway, they've also had some spikes of iffy goaltending. And nothing is the coach's fault in the NHL like the one thing he has no control over.

I hate PDO with a passion, but this one time...

Past 20 games, per Moneypuck

Yes, they've had less than stellar shooting luck too.

If Vegas has finally done a (stupid) emotional hockey-man thing instead of a hard-man ruthless smart thing, it will be pretty amusing. Regression comes to us all.

The Leafs play in Anaheim tonight, that's a thing that is happening. It's a 10 pm start, and I will not at all commit to watching that full game. We'll see if it's fun for any reason.

But you know, the Leafs are much worse than they were before the trade deadline. They barely shoot the puck, you may have noticed. And this is not, for the love of rationality, because Craig Berube tells them to never shoot.

They just aren't that good. It's okay, the season is almost over.
