In our recap of this past Tuesday's Leafs game against the Calgary Flames, FiftyMissionCap wrote the following lines:

On a too many men penalty, Mikael Backlund would deflect a point shot past Reimer. Hard shot; no chance. 2-1 Flames. Shortly after that, Mark Giordano hit Nazem Kadri in the face with his forearm and might have made him bleed his own blood. He may very well be suspended for his "throat slash" gesture at Giordano after the hit...

The NHL reports that Kadri will be fined rather than suspended for the gesture. Kadri apologized for his emotional reaction to Giordano's hit.

Lamoriello told Sportsnet that he spoke to Kadri about the incident, and that "It’s not something that should transpire."

One other NHL player has been punished by the league for the gesture -- Nick Boyton, in 2006 and 2010. He was given a one-game suspension for each gesture.
