Yesterday was a busy day. The Penguins and Oilers did a big trade which brought Tristan Jarry to Edmonton. More on that in the preview. But I wonder if giving up Brent Kulak to get him was a Gift of the Magi moment for them.

[And then the Wild upped the ante on big trades]

In other news, Craig Berube brought everyone up to date on the injury status of the long list of Leafs players out of action.

I think the "controversy" about how the Leafs report injuries is manufactured, and the only odd thing is the delayed announcement about Brandon Carlo. But everyone is talking about the Leafs not giving out detailed injury reports and not noticing, because they don't write game previews, that many other teams use identical processes.

Who was in for Tampa last game? That was fun trying to find out.

But here is the full list:

Oliver Ekman Larsson: hurt in the game on Thursday, he might play tonight. It's not serious, regardless. He is day-to-day and not on IR.

Marshall Rifai: hurt in training camp, he is ready to return. The Leafs might get him in tonight. He is technically day-to-day, but has been practicing in full. He is still on LTIR as of now.

Joe Woll: not playing tonight, but he's nearly ready to come back. He has skated and taken shots, but not had a full practice.

Chris Tanev: had an evaluation and now is getting a second opinion. The CBA has new-ish language giving players more control over their medical decisions and laying out their rights to second opinions. How long this will take is unknown.

Anthony Stolarz: he is not skating and is not about to start soon. No one is saying his season is over, but no one is guaranteeing it is not.

Brandon Carlo: had surgery on his foot a few days ago, and is out indefinitely. No one is predicting his recovery, but obviously it's not a week or so.

Dakota Mermis: hurt in the last game and is listed as week-to-week.

If you want to know the official designation of players you can find that on Puckpedia's list of injuries:

If you go to the line combos page on Daily Faceoff, you can find the list of injured at the bottom:

Note: sometimes the return date is the earliest possible activation from IR or LTIR under the CBA rules. That's not medical opinion, just a best-case scenario.

In my experience, finding out what's going on with the Leafs is very, very easy. Now try a team that has no beat reporters on the road.

After his one-game suspension, Maple Leafs forward Bobby McMann spoke about the incident, and what led up to the situation. McMann returns to the lineup Saturday against the Oilers.
Scout’s Analysis: How did the Oilers make out in the Tristan Jarry trade?
After back-to-back appearances in the Stanley Cup Final, the Edmonton Oilers finally acted on their long-standing concern in goal. Trading Stuart Skinner for Tristan Jarry wasn’t simply about upgrading the tandem — it was about replacing the starter outright.

That trade:

The Oilers also did this trade to replace Kulak:

And the Penguins put Matt Dumba on waivers yesterday on receipt of Kulak. No the Leafs don't want him.

The Wild trade:

Seravalli didn't break the news, he just writes succinct Tweets.

A`nd if you want see what happened at last night's Marlies @ Rocket game, here's one interesting segment. There will likely be a suspension coming for Michael Pezzetta, and perhaps someone for the Rocket bench too as there's some clear contact on Pezzetta there. The Marlies lost the game 5-2.

That's it for now. Preview of the brand new Oilers vs the Leafs will be out later today.
