Prospect Playoffs

This is just the results for yesterday which was the opening night of CHL action, so it was busy.

Victor Johansson

#Leafs prospect Victor Johansson (#48 in white/blue) with one assist on the game winning goal, giving Leksands the sweep of their second round series. He had a 'third' assist on their first goal too, it was a solid two-way game for him. Here are his highlights.

That's the second sweep for this team and they move onto the semifinals next week.

Easton Cowan

The London Knights played their opener last night against Owen Sound and won it emphatically 6-1.

#Leafs prospect Easton Cowan starting off the playoffs like he finished the regular season — his primary assist on the powerplay opens the scoring against Owen Sound.

#Leafs prospect Easton Cowan with a lovely pass out from behind the net into the slot for another primary assist. He has two points as London leads 4-1, and has honestly gotten robbed of at least two goals. He's been very good tonight.

Ben Danford

Emphatic was the theme as Oshawa beat Bampton 7-4.

#Leafs prospect Ben Danford leads an odd man rush and snipes it from the faceoff circle for his first goal and point of the playoffs!

Sam McCue

Flint and Kitchener bucked the trend going to overtime three-all. Unfortunately Kitchener got the win against McCue's team.

Noah Chadwick

Chadwick played very well on Lethbridge's top pair, pitching in with an assist, three shots, and was a +3 in their 6-3 win on home ice. It should be an easier series for them, and they sure looked like the favoured team after the first game.

#Leafs prospect Noah Chadwick sneaks in from the point and gets the primary assist on Lethbridge's second goal of their playoff opener.

Miroslav Holinka

Holinka didn't factor into any of the goals, but played well in a defensive, play-pushing in the right direction kind of role for Edmonton. They pulled off the 'upset' win 3-1 as the road team, giving them the 1-0 series lead.

Borya Valis

This was the best game of the night, by far. Mainly because the third period was absolutely bonkers. Prince George was down 5-2 going at the start of the period, and then they scored four straight goals to take a 6-5 lead. The building was going nuts on each successive goal. Valis was a huge part of their comeback – he had Prince George's first goal, assisted on their fourth goal of the game that brought the score within one, and assisted on their sixth goal to give them a temporary lead.

Portland tied it late in the third, so it went to overtime, and then Prince George finished the job on a bit of a controversial goal since the Portland goalie knocked the net off by himself before the puck was shot and went in. Valis got credited for the goal initially but it didn't look like he touched it, and it was given to the shooter after the game. It was still a big three point night in a fun as hell 7-6 overtime win!

#Leafs prospect Borya Valis gets Prince George on the board after making a power move to the net, and a nice deke to get around the defender before backhanding it into the net.

#Leafs prospect Borya Valis picks up the rebound behind the net and makes a perfect pass into the slot for the primary assist. He has two points tonight, and both have helped Prince George as they try and make a big comeback on home ice in game one.

#Leafs prospect Borya Valis takes the puck away in his own end and starts the breakout, earning a secondary assist on the go ahead goal in the third period. It's his third point of the game to help their huge comeback!

Nathan Mayes

Spokane took care of business in game one, on home ice. They controlled most of the game and were pretty suffocating to Vancouver's offense, outshooting them 44-26 and only giving up 6 shots on goal in the third period while protecting the lead. Mayes was fantastic for Spokane, having the primary assist on the game winning goal and was a +3.

#Leafs prospect Nathan Mayes with the point shot that gets deflected in for the 2-1 lead!

Hudson Malinoski

His Providence team was up against Denver and did not fare well. Denver won it easily. That ends his playoffs.

Oh that's nice for him, he's... wait, he's the 1C? Checks to see if he moved to the Swiss league while I wasn't looking...

UGH

That's all for now, don't forget the game later today, not late, but still in California.
