It was another loss to a last place team for the Maple Leafs on Saturday night national TV. The Senators took advantage of Garret Sparks to get their victory this time.
Maple Leafs outplay the Senators, find a new way to get goalied in 4-2 loss
Today will be a quiet day in Leafs land, though there may be a practice later with more quotes from players, we have a few from last night, including a somber Sparks striking a much different tone than in his famous quote from a few weeks ago about “more emotions.”
Garret Sparks on his game in #Leafs loss: "I just have to make more saves. We come roaring back to tie the game, it would have a been a huge save to make on the third one and obviously, the first two weren’t great either."— Kristen Shilton (@kristen_shilton) March 31, 2019
The standings are still exactly as they were when the Senators trounced the Leafs on a Saturday. The Leafs sit in the final division playoff spot, seemingly destined all season long now to play the Bruins in the first round of the playoffs.
There’s still four games to go before that happens, though. The next Leafs game is Monday night where they will face-off against the Islanders. This game will again be at the Nassau Coliseum. Hopefully that is one game where they can avoid the embarrassment they had in that building last time.
Here’s what we wrote about yesterday.
Marlies add Maple Leafs draft pick Ryan McGregor on an ATO - Katya
Drafted in 2017, McGregor is coming off a very hot year with the Sarnia Sting.
McGregor played in his first Marlies game last night.
A brief Wild Card update from yesterday: both the Blue Jackets and the Canadiens won their games, so they are still tied for points, with the Blue Jackets having the tie-breaker. The possibility of the Habs game against the Leafs on Saturday determining whether they make the playoffs is increasing. Note that there is also still a scenario where that game will have both the Leafs and Habs playing each other to make the playoffs, though that is a very unlikey event involving three other teams to win all or almost all of their remaining games this season.
Joonas Donskoi and Logan Couture both decided to check Ryan Reaves. Both of them missed Ryan Reaves. Guess what happened next.
Tomorrow is April Fools Day, folks. Watch out for tricksters!
