The IIHF has mandated neck laceration protection (neck guards) at all levels of competition. The rule has been expanded to all senior levels after it was already in place for the U20 and U18 junior categories.
The IIHF Council, on recommendation from its Medical Committee, has decided to mandate the use of a neck laceration protector, specifically designed for this purpose, at all levels of IIHF competitions.

The PWHL is trialing some rule changes that have been quite popular in the past. Two-minute minor penalties will be served in their entirety, meaning teams can score multiple power play goals on one penalty. Icing not being exempted on the penalty kill will also be trialed. The first and third periods will hold the "long change" instead of the traditional second period. These rules will be reviewed and evaluated before the season starts on New Year's Day.
