A couple of days ago, the Sharks traded for someone on all the trade bait lists, and now this:

Penguins eyeing Robertson as target? — The Fourth Period
If the Dallas Stars take calls on Jason Robertson, the Pittsburgh Penguins want in that race, according to a report.

And I officially don't understand the NHL. I get that teams are growing closer in terms of the standings and in terms of more meaningful measures of quality, but surely the Sharks aren't really in the mix for playoff success? And they traded for Keifer Sherwood with no idea of whether he will sign an extension or not.

Pittsburgh made another interesting move of minor players yesterday:

Penguins acquire D Solovyov from Avalanche for F Puustinen, seventh-round pick
The Pittsburgh Penguins acquired defenceman Ilya Solovyov from the Colorado Avalanche on Tuesday in exchange for forward Valtteri Puustinen and a 2026 seventh-round draft pick.

They have a lot of defenders, and it seems like they want to be the defence store for the deadline. Colorado got back a bona fide AHL star, and not someone they need to have on the NHL roster.

Anthony Stolarz in on an LTIR conditioning stint with the Marlies, but it seems it might just be for practice time.

- TSN
TSN’s Hockey Insiders on the Senators’ remaining resilient, Anthony Stolarz nearing a return with the Leafs, the Flames and Nazem Kadri/Blake Coleman, Rangers GM Chris Drury meeting with his ‘no move’ players, and the Sharks’ options with Kiefer Sherwood.

The expectation is the Leafs will simply send Dennis Hildeby down when Stolarz is ready to play. After all, in a couple of weeks, the Marlies are where the only games are, so having him there now is ideal.
