Last night the NHL Awards were on, and it’s OK if you forgot, no Maple Leafs were nominated for anything so they may as well not have existed.

However, some very smart members of the PHWA did toss a vote or two Toronto’s way. Here’s what I’ve found, and which Leafs got at least a fifth place vote:

Calder Trophy - Rookie of the Year

From the Leafs, Andreas Johnsson came eight in voting, with one second place vote, two fourths, and ten fifth place votes. That put him 1,627 points behind winner Elias Pettersson.

Lady Byng Memorial Trophy - Most Gentlemanly Player

If you squint real hard you’ll see that Morgan Rielly came fourth in voting (2-20-16-34-13), Auston Matthews (2-2-3-9-9) was eighth, Mitchell Marner (0-0-3-4-2) is 18th, John Tavares is 23rd (1-1-0-0-0), and Tyler Ennis (0-0-0-0-1) was tied for 49th.

James Norris Memorial Trophy - Best Defender

Morgan Rielly (0-28-33-37-43) was fifth in voting for best defender, but had no first place votes. Jake Muzzin was tied for 11th with one third place vote.

Frank J. Selke Award - Best defensive forward

Mitch Marner was 14th with one third, one fourth, and two fifth place votes and John Tavares was 19th with two fouths and a fifth.

Hart Memorial Trophy - MVP

John Tavares was the lone Leaf to show up on Hart voting, tied for 17th with one fourth place vote and four fifths.

All-Star Team

No Maple Leafs were voted onto the first or second all star teams, but some did get votes:

Centre - John Tavares - 7th place
Defense - Morgan Rielly - 5th place
Goaltender - Frederik Andersen - 7th place
All Rookie Team - Andreas Johnsson - 4th place

Also, a big announcement in the world of virtual hockey, Auston Matthews was named the cover athlete for NHL 20! Even bigger news, PPP got an interview with the cover star himself:

Also out yesterday were the potentials for the 2019 Hockey Hall of Fame class

Elsewhere around the league...nothing else of note happened. Let’s just enjoy the quiet until the draft tomorrow.
