It’s time for a ‘statement game.’

Toronto Maple Leafs (2-2-1) vs. Detroit Red Wings: (3-1-0)
Leafs Game #6
Start Time: 7:00 p.m.
Broadcast/Streaming: Hockey Night in Canada

Here’s our preview of tonight’s game.

There’s a lot on the line tonight. It’s a chance for the Leafs to bounce back after getting destroyed by the Lightning at home on Thursday and reset the narratives of the early days of the season. And do we really need some of those to be reset. Like those about Kasperi Kapanen.

Tonight’s game is also Phil Kessel’s 1000th. There will be no ceremony tonight as the Coyotes are on the road, but it’s still going to be talked about by our favourite Saturday night intermission panel. Get your mute buttons ready.

Marlies

The Marlies swung through Manitoba on an early-season road trip this weekend and won both games. They sit undefeated on the season to date. Egor Korshkov scored short-handed to bring his season tally to three goals in three games.

It’s still October and I’m still not going to panic. There’s several teams in far more dire straits already.

It’ll be a vodka, straight, kind of night, but when the hangover clears I still won’t panic.
