It’s become clear that Mike Babcock is keeping tryouts going into the season. Presumably the first 10 games of the season, or until Travis Dermott and Zach Hyman get back from injury, will be the chance for the 11th and 12th forward, and 6th defenseman to earn jobs. After that, there likely won’t even be an opportunity to be a spare in the pressbox and earn some extra cash handing out programs to the media.

Michael Hutchinson will make his first start of the season as the team’s third backup goalie in as many seasons. He gets the start on the second night of a back to back including travel, just how Babcock likes it.

Now that we’ve moved on from the bottom four players in the lineup, will you have a look at the top! In the first two games of the year, the top-six and top-four have combined for six goals and 14 assists. The team is getting contributions from everyone up and down the lineup. The only players to have played both games and be without a point are alexander Kerfoot, Kasperi Kapanen, and Andreas Johnsson and even those guys have combined for 7 shots on goal. Kapanen has certainly impressed.
