The Tampa Bay Lightning are Stanley Cup Champions, meaning the offseason can officially begin. The Seattle Expansion Draft is underway and the new team will have their roster announced on Wednesday, July 21st. Once that’s done, the 2021 NHL Draft will get underway on July 23rd and 24th.

Seattle Expansion Draft Process and Timeline

With a 32nd team being added, and the Arizona Coyotes forfeiting their first round pick because of the draft combine testing scandal, it’s been hard to figure out where exactly the Leafs will be picking. They only have three picks at the moment of this article, but those prospects are still important and there will be chances to get more as the Draft begins.

Currently, the Leafs have their second (#56), fifth (#152), and sixth (#184) round picks. Hopefully more will come, or this draft is going to be quite boring.

Some notes:

  • My list will end at Pick 223, instead of Pick 224, because I repeated pick 11, the pick the Coyotes had taken away.
  • Something I learned while writing this: the playoff results affect the ranking of all seven rounds now, not just the first round like back in the day. Tampa has the last pick of each round, Montreal the second last, and so on.
  • The Draft Lottery only affects the first round, so you can see Seattle second overall, but third from the top in each round after.
  • Thank you to CapFriendly for most of this information, and Katya for the rest./
