Mitch Marner in his bubble helmet scored all three goals in regulation for the Toronto Maple Leafs, and then scored in the shootout to salvage two points on his night.

The Leafs were out-shot 83-51 in the game, including 40-29 on net, they were out-played for two full periods and the overtime, but got the win again thanks to Marner's four shots past Grubauer in the game.

Forced to be busy, Joseph Woll stopped 37 of 40 shots he faced, including some huge opportunities in the third period and overtime once again. Oliver Bjorkstrand led both teams with 13 shot attempts, including nine on net. Marner had eight shots, four on net to lead the Leafs.

First Period

1-0

Bubble Boy Marner opened the scoring on the power play with a tap-in from the side of the net! Marner and Tavares worked to win a loose puck behind the net. Tavares got it loose to Matthews, who set up Nylander behind him. Nylander's rebound fell to Marner who banged it home.

Nylander stole a pass right in the heart of the slot, but Grubauer poke-checked him to avert a near-certain goal.

The power play yarn-croaked when Järnkrok got booked for tripping Bellemare during a zone entry. Sure, okay, or he just ran into him.

Rielly nearly doubled the lead with a couple seconds left in the period with this point shot that rang off the iron.

After One

Strong first period for the Leafs, who haven't been out-shooting their opponents over the course of games at all this year. The Leafs won the even-strength shot share 14-7, and then in all situations 25-14. They also had 65% of the even strength expected goals in the low-event period.

Second Period

2-0

Instead it was Bubble Boy who doubled the lead at the start of the period with this one-timer that deflected off Larsson, up, and over Grubauer for the goal. Assists to Matthews and Timmins at the point.

2-1

McCann sniped a deflected pass up and over Woll on the power play. McCabe nearly got all of the pass, and successfully tied up Wennberg's stick in front, but nothing was beating that shot on the power play.

William Lagesson has made his case to be a mainstay on the Leafs third pair. He's doing pretty well on the second pair in minutes way above his paygrade.

3-1

Bubble Hockey Hat Trick! Marner with his third!

After Two

Unfortunately, the Leafs weren't very good in the second period. They struggled to get pucks deep, which meant easier zone entries for the Kraken, which meant more slot chances for their forwards. Shots at 5v5 were a worrying 7-25! And 10-39!! In all situations.

They extended the lead, but they weren't playing to win. Frankly, they were asking to lose the lead most of the period.

Third Period

2-3

Tolvanen scores with a snipe to the top corner on his fourth shot of the game.

3-3

McCann scores again to tie the game, wasting Marner's hat trick. This one was a low-high, high-slot shot.

Shots were 28-36 at the end of regulation. Leafs got hosed for another period.

Overtime

Nylander, Matthews, and McCabe were out to start. They got hemmed for two minutes. Marner, Järnkrok, and Rielly were out next. Nylander was back out in less than a minute, but he couldn't get loose for a play, checked by Yamamoto.

Bjorkstrand on his ninth shot on goal in the game nearly ended the game.

Matthews and Marner in the final minute of OT. Rielly missed the tic-tac-toe playto end the game. Eberle nearly scored at the other end, but Woll desperately saved the game with the pad.

Shootout

Nylander stopped on the forehand with Grubauer's pad.

Yamamoto stopped by Woll's blocker.

Matthews slips it through the five-hole again!

McCann scored twice in regulation but was stopped by Woll's glove.

Marner wins the game in the shootout past the glove of Grubauer!
