Winnik, known for being the best player the Leafs ever traded to Pittsburgh, returns to Toronto.

The Leafs signed Winnik from free agency in 2014 for a one year contract at $1.3M. The left-winger played 58 games for the Leafs, mostly on the third line, scoring 7 goals and 18 assists until he was traded to the Penguins at the trade deadline for Zack Sill, a 2015 4th round pick, and a 2016 2nd round pick, which was just returned to the Penguins in the Kessel trade. Oh, and the Leafs retained 50% of his salary.

Winnik's first goal in Toronto was on this hilarious turnover by Columbus. May he get many more.

On February 21st he sealed a Gordie Howe hat trick by fighting Ben Chiarot.

For all the Leafs trivia buffs out there this was the game where Olli Jokinen obtained his one point as a Leaf. It was also the game where Uncle Leo had this awesome short-handed goal.

What do you think of this signing?
