The veteran defenceman is coming off a one-year deal in Anaheim and a deadline move to the Wild.

Update: the Leafs have confirmed this at their media availability.

Maple Leafs Sign Defenceman John Klingberg to One-year Contract
The Toronto Maple Leafs announced today that the hockey club has signed defenceman John Klingberg to a one-year contract worth $4.15 million.

John Klingberg turns 31 this summer, and is listed at 6'3" and 185 lb. He was a defender with a standout career that waned in recent years on the Dallas Stars. He was drafted by them in 2010 and played his entire career there until last season.

This leaves us with his most recent season having mostly been spent on a very bad team. His results outside of points are very bad. Although he had a little bit of a positive impact offensively.

If this is just who he is now, then he's barely playable off the power play. If that was just the lingering effects of what seemed like an emotional departure from Dallas and a season on a bad team, well...

This is definitely a risky signing in a sense, but until we know the numbers it's hard to know what to think.

More to come...
