Today, the Maple Leafs traded Jacob Quillan and Brandon Buhr for Canucks centre Aatu Räty.

Räty just cleared waivers today, so he can be sent directly to the Marlies as long as he has not played in 10 games or been on the roster for 30 days.

By bundling Buhr into the deal, the Leafs solve their 50 SPCs problem.

Räty is known as a very good faceoff centre, and has not been popular with new Canucks coach Manny Malhotra. Räty is 24 next month and was drafted in the second round by the Islanders in 2021.

He's had an irregular NHL career, so he's hard to judge, but he looks like a capable depth player.
