The Toronto Marlies have brought back a familiar face to the crease to help ease their goalie shortage. With both Calvin Pickard and Curtis McElhinney lost on waivers, the Marlies, who are about to begin the regular season tomorrow, were short a contracted netminder.

Glass, 32, split his 2017-18 season between the Chicago Blackhawks and Rockford IceHogs (AHL). The Calgary native posted a 15-9-2 record with Rockford, with a 2.82 goals-against average and .904 save percentage in 28 games. Glass appeared in two games with the Marlies during the 2016-17 season. Glass was selected by the Ottawa Senators with the 89th overall pick in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.

In the season before last, Glass came on board on a PTO as he was trying to transition back to North American hockey after several years in the KHL.

While he did only appear in two games that year, he was the backup in several more, was always there in practice, and he’s one of those players everyone says good things about.

He signed on last season with Chicago, who were troubled by injuries at the NHL level. He did play in some NHL action, backed up some of the time, but he was primarily one of a group of goalies on the IceHogs. He did lay down three excellent playoff games for them as well.

He was on a PTO with the Flames during training camp, but they released him.

As far as we know, the Marlies still have Justin Peters on a PTO as another support for Kasimir Kaskisuo, who should start the majority of the games. With the AHL schedule of three-in-three weekends and many back-to-backs, three goalies is not too many.
