Toronto Maple Leafs @ Detroit Red Wings

Watch on: TSN4, FDSNDET

Once more over the Detroit River for TSN, and that ad revenue!

This is it, the final preseason game for both teams. For reasons only they know, the Red Wings have played seven games prior to tonight, had no time for sustained practice and are entering the season with a lot of young players.

The Leafs have a lineup almost precisely that which could be guessed at before camp began, but they're staying home.

Them

The Wings have a few extras on the roster yet, but this is their standard lines including Leafs killer Lucas Raymond.

Us

The Leafs dug deep into the second icepad group, nominally the Marlies group, to play today. The other Marlies, mostly the AHL-contracted players and those from the ECHL, are in Belleville today for preseason games this weekend.

This seems like a proforma attempt at a game, but there is some method here in the lineup choices. Luke Haymes jumped right over Jacob Quillan at the prospect tournament in September and has stayed there, but the difference isn't large. They each get some good wingers and all have NHL experience except Cowan.

Simon Benoit gets in his second game, notably playing on the left side. He has been trying to play the right side, allowing Oliver Ekman-Larsson to move over to the left, but he's barely been able to practice this camp, and he switched back to the left at some point in the last game.

The trio of Mermis, Thrun and Myers are in contention for a pressbox seat.

Originally, Craig Berube had said Hildeby would start and Reimer back up, but today he is clarifying they will split the game. Reminder: Reimer is on a PTO not under contract.

The Game

If Scott Laughton is out for a week or two, it's actually meaningful to see how Quillan and Haymes do against tough competition.

Go Leafs Go.
