Toronto Maple Leafs @ Winnipeg Jets
07:00 PM at Canada Life Centre
Watch on: SN, CBC, NHLN

The Leafs last game was away on January 15 against the Vegas Golden Knights, which Toronto lost by a score of 6-5 in overtime. The Leafs have a record of 23-16-8 for a 0.574 Points %.

The Winnipeg Jets last played away on January 15 against the Minnesota Wild. The Jets won by a score of 6-2 in regulation, and their current league record is 19-22-5 for a 0.467 Points %.

Them

Nothing much has changed since the Leafs beat the Jets in their last meeting on New Year's Day. The Canucks are saving the Jets from being in last place, but it is true the Jets are not as abjectly bad as their record implies.

They struggle with possession at five-on-five, and they are particularly weak defensively, as they allow a lot of quality shots. Their power play is poor and they don't score much, but their PK is very good and the goaltending shorthanded has been excellent.

Overall their team Save % is league average. They do have a good team Shooting %, and they have the puck enough that they should be scoring more, but they just don't generate enough offence. Their all-situations Goals for and against rate is a virtual tie. Add in a little sequencing bad luck in terms of when and how much they score, and you've got a low-end mediocre team masquerading as one of the worst teams in the NHL.

Connor Hellebuyck has been good this year, but not even remotely his usual elite self.

William Nylander is out for this game and the next one as well, and after that the timeline is unknown.

One report has Calle Järnkrok back in the lineup, while another says Jacob Quillan will join the team in Winnipeg, possibly just as an emergency extra. No Simon Benoit again tonight.

The Game

Same as it ever was. But don't count on the power play to help much.
