Toronto Maple Leafs @ Calgary Flames
08:30 PM at Scotiabank Saddledome
Watch on: SN+

The Leafs last game was away on October 24 against the Edmonton Oilers, which Toronto won by a score of 7-2 in regulation. The Leafs have a record of 7-4-2 for a 0.615 Points %.

The Calgary Flames last played at home on October 24 against the Detroit Red Wings. The Flames won by a score of 4-1 in regulation, and their current league record is 4-6-0 for a 0.400 Points %.

Them

The Flames earned their record but they aren't Flyers/Canucks bad. They are an average team at five-on-five, but high-event, with good offensive pace and a dreadful number of shots allowed.

Their power play has been bad, but papered over by a goal rate they won't sustain, and their PK is similarly bad by shots, but with a hot save percentage.

In all-situations, they are poor at team save %, however.

Devin Cooley has made some waves (surfer dude style) by pretty clearly describing flow state in terms of his goaltending. I saw a foolish person compare this to an essay written by one of those "golden age of sports prose" guys ragging on Tracy Austin's very vapid ghostwritten memoire as a comparator of Cooley, and wow was that ever deeply wrong.

One of the confounding things about hockey is that many fans believe every action is made with intent, while the players of all positions are doing things so quickly they don't have time to think about them. This is not to be confused with having no thoughts or ideas, but there is a point at which risk assessment and tactical awareness fade away and the body just acts.

Us

Calgary is the perfect team to draw the fast and exciting Leafs into a game that is too fast and too furious. If nothing else, it might be worth staying up late for on a Monday.
