Easton Cowan’s London Knights are in the CHL Memorial Cup Finals against the Medicine Hat Tigers tonight at 7pm ET on TSN. London lost to Medicine Hat on Wednesday night during the round robin, meaning they needed to beat the Moncton Wildcats on Friday in order to make the final showdown, which they did 5-2.

Medicine Hat Tigers battle London Knights in Memorial Cup Final for major junior supremacy | TSN
The Western Hockey League champion Medicine Hat Tigers and Ontario Hockey League champion London Knights meet in the Memorial Cup Final on Sunday as they battle for supremacy at the top of the Canadian Hockey League.

Leafs blue chipper Easton Cowan leads the tournament in points with six. Tigers Ryder Ritchie (MIN) and Gavin McKenna (undrafted) are right behind him with five.

This is the last chance for the current cohort of Knights to win it all since most of the roster is moving on to pro, including Cowan. The Knights lost in the Mem Cup Final last year, and lost in the OHL Finals the year before. This is their third crack at it, and in a league with so much turnover, and for players so young, it feels like forever. I hope they make it count tonight and do the thing.

Redemption Era: Knights return to Memorial Cup Final for one last dance - Ontario Hockey League
The London Knights look to translate the sting of defeat into fuel to capture their ultimate goal on Sunday, facing the Medicine Hat Tigers for the Memorial Cup.

Also in OHL news, let’s see what happens this time for Niagara. A positive note is they brought in an outsider for the first time in a while.

If you need some Sunday reading, I should interest you in all of Cathy’s work this week preparing you for the summer. I had an article on what a retooled Leafs roster could look like (at its worst) but I couldn’t get that ready tonight so it’ll go on the pile for this week. I appreciate the feedback I got in yesterdays FTB, so thank you!

The Maple Leafs’ three possible paths with and without Mitch Marner this summer
Every spring, I attempt to logically lay out the Maple Leafs’ offseason picture, identifying the team’s needs and the suitable paths to addressing them while eyeing the short and long-term salary cap ramifications. There is no point burying the lede this year. We might as well jump into the deep end right away by discussing […]
