Leafs Mother's Day links

Special thanks to all the mothers out there.  Today is your day.  I hope it's a good one.  For all you sons and daughters, don't forget to get a card or at least call your mom today.  Otherwise she'll probably hate you forever.  Enjoy

Closing in on that extra second

So the Boston Bruins sweep the Philadelphia Flyers and move on to face the Tampa Bay Lightening in the Eastern Conference Finals. In doing so, the Bruins move four wins away from the Cup finals and gifting the Leafs an extra 2nd round pick in next year's draft.

The WC, What a Joke

If you know me, then you know that I believe the World Championships are a complete joke of a hockey tournament. Beyond the obvious reasons such as jerseys and gear covered in ad stickers, rosters that would make an AHL team laugh (Tim Stapleton on Team USA?), and the fact

Good Morning Once Again From Vietnam!

I wasn't slated to do this morning's FTB, as I expected to return to Hà Nội later on today (er, this morning to all of you on EST) from a vacation in central Vietnam, but the train times worked out better than I'd hoped,

In Which Dion Phaneuf Nearly Killed a Guy

Tory! Tory! Tory!

I don't really follow Canadian politics, but apparently there was a federal election last night and all of you are now mad.  But hey, there are some great Leafs links... Tuesday links: Team Canada's application form for the World Championships New DGB Stamkos following the Big

Nothing Important At All Happened Last Night

In case you've also been hiding in a cave the President of US revealed that a Navy Seal team killed Osama bin Laden. Doubt we have many Leafs links today but throw them in the comments. Reminder to Canadians: go vote today.

A Name from the Past

But that is not to say he did not do things which have been a benefit to the organization to this day.  Under his watch, as people like to say, the Leafs drafted and signed some players who may yet become cornerstones of any success the club has in the

Saturday morning links for a Saturday morning

Look, it's April.  Outside of the elite few destroying the national hopes of Belarus and other nations in the World Championships, there isn't a lot going on.  Be sure to check today's links for all your Leafs news. Saturday links: 10 questions for Leaf

OK, back to hockey

Ding Ding! Round Two!

Unfortunately for our two first-round draft picks, both the Philadelphia Flyers and the Boston Bruins have moved on to the second round. This is exactly where they faced each other at this time last year, and, as many of you are sure to remember, the Flyers came out on

Well Dip

Whelp, leave it to a Senator to lose a playoff series. Hats off to Chicago for the amazing comeback to make this a series. Hot Carl - Puckin' Eh I had a hard time defining what Carl Gunnarsson means to the Toronto blueline, and it was also challenging to compare

Gunnarsson Going to the Worlds

I suppose it won't come as a shock to anyone that Carl Gunnarsson has been named to the Swedish team at the World Championships in Slovakia, but it's still good to hear it. The goaltending will be supplied by two Swedish Elite League goalies and Erik

Ex-Leafs In The Playoffs

Business anything but usual for Kaberle

But the reality is that Kaberle is now playing third-pair minutes. That’s shocking. (Leaf fans recall that he routinely played 30 minutes a night in the Quinn playoff years, alongside McCabe- and much more in those classic overtime games.) Importantly, he is not really helping the Bruins as

Recaps, Recaps, Recaps

Oh, sure, I could kick things off with an article about the Leafs, but really, they're not yesterday's big news. Hopefully, everyone was able to fit in a little bit of playoff action last night, because there were some good games on. The Pens and Lighting,

Yo Mama Is So.....

Not a lot in the way of Leafs news, so instead I take you back to your childhood with Twitter "Yo Momma" jokes: Yo momma so dumb, she tells people to meet her at the corner of "walk" and "don't walk". Yo

Burkian Hubris, Anyone?

Is Burke a little short with reporters? Yeah. Is his demeanor, or, perhaps more accurately, his public persona, and the subsequent terseness with the media, something that could use a little work? Personally, I think Burke has got it down to a finely-tuned skill (for better or worse), but

Ah, Playoff Hockey!

There are a lot of links today; three just from James Mirtle, four games recaps (for those who couldn't see any hockey last night), and a few Leafs articles from the usual suspects. A bit of league news emerged yesterday as Joe Niewendyk fired Mark Crawford, but most

Brian Burke Unhappy With Failure of a Season

So the big news from yesterday was the end of the year presser given by Brian Burke on the state of the Maple Leafs. Most of the articles linked today cover it. Here's Mirtle's take on it: Burke Admit's Leafs Season Another Failue - James
