There were no signings or trades yesterday. There are 11 skaters who are unsigned RFAs who played at least one NHL game last year. That's about normal for this far from training camp. There are no real name free agents unsigned.
A look at the projected cap space for teams shows most playoff likely teams with no or very little space, and big amounts of cap space on the teams who are going to pretend hard they're trying to get better.
PuckPedia has four teams over the cap with their projected roster.
Vegas is $7+ million over with Alexander Holtz to sign, but putting Alex Pietrangelo on LTIR fixes that problem for the most part.
Montréal is almost $6 million over but that's without Carey Price on LTIR. There are reports per PuckPedia that Montréal is likely to trade that contract after the September 1 payment date of the $5.5 million signing bonus. It leaves $2 million in actual salary owed. Problem solved and they can accrue cap space through the season.
Florida is just under $4 million over with only 22 players on the roster. They can't fix this in any obvious way unless they know something no one else knows about someone's health.
The Flyers are the surprise team over the cap right now, but it's less than one minimum salary player. They also have Ryan Ellis to put on LTIR giving them space to actually add someone at forward where they are thin.
The Leafs, by the way show a cap space of just under $2 million with 23 players. There are several opportunities in the forward lineup to make space for new players.
None of the teams with higher-end RFAs to sign are really in a cap crunch. There does not appear to be any real lever here that's going to make trades of note happen. Everyone looks ready to settle into training camp and find out who is hurt.
It is prospect season, though. So vote:
And we're still talking Olympic hopes and dreams out there as teams start building rosters:

That's it for today, go vote if you haven't, and have a good summer day everyone. (Offer not valid in the southern hemisphere.)
