You may not like all those new Leafs signings, but I like that this is not going to be the kind of conversations Leafs fans will have to have:

Adrian Kempe at Center: A Kings Experiment, Not An Answer — The Fourth Period
TFP’s Dennis Bernstein looks at Adrian Kempe moving to the center position and how it will effect the LA Kings this coming season.

Latest buzz around Hughes, Hellebuyck, Larkin

Some memory refreshing:

What you need to remember about the NHL for this season
In what feels like the blink of an eye, a new NHL season lingers right around the corner. Sportsnet’s Rory Boylen breaks down everything you should remember ahead of puck drop.

More on this very worrying story:

Lawyer slams ASU investigation into hockey player collapse
An attorney for Matthew Mayich, who is in a coma, says the hockey player was subjected to a brutal workout, and ASU is mishandling the investigation.

This is an odd way for medical information to be released to the public. I understand this lawyer wants to goad the school into a more independent investigation, which seems wise, but it all feels so unworthy of the man at the centre of all of this.

If this were a Leafs prospect, I would expect the team to be leading the way on overseeing the situation. I would want the NHL to be involved as well.

A signing!

A trade! Involving a real player!

And a sign that Nashville is cashing in their chips to fight another day.

There was a story yesterday about Victory+ and the Stars moving to Amazon Prime, and now we see the whole network is dissolving:

And now to cap this off, and to get you into the new season feel, a really excellent article about Darren Raddysh. This is the good stuff. I will spoil the future for you a little and say I'm going to cover all the new Leafs in more detail the second the T25 is done, and when I get to Raddysh I'll be referencing this. I have some slightly different views on some aspects of things, but what I found exciting here is that thing discussed at the HALO conference where scouting and analytics work together, because this discussion of Raddysh fits hand in glove with model impact evaluations. It brings the why to the how in the story.

Read it.
