Okay first up today a news item that we might as well have out in the open in full before it gets picked up by the great amplification and distortion organ that is social media.

As you likely know, Gavin McKenna was arrested in the winter for punching a man in the face near a bar. At that time the police stated they had video of McKenna leaving the bar. He was reportedly there with his family. The serious charge against McKenna was dropped within days with the statement made that the evidence didn't support the intent provisions of that charge. McKenna is still facing some misdemeanor and summary charges, and that process is ongoing.

This charge of furnishing liquor to minors against Krystal McKenna, his mother, was laid in April, but stems from that same incident. The potential outcome is a fine or jail time, and that process is ongoing and may involve some kind of settlement as seems to be expected in some news reports regarding Gavin's case.

My first response on reading this was: hands up if your mom ever bought you beer when you weren't legal. Which might be a way to split everyone up by age and class. But my hand is up. Not in a bar, though. For a supervised party.

Montréal beat the Sabres last night to tie their series. That winner faces (almost certainly) Carolina. They are trying to go 8-0 by beating the Flyers today in a game that starts at 6 pm. No one has ever done that in the modern era of hockey, I heard on a podcast yesterday.

The Avs play the Wild today at 9 pm and they lead that series 2-0. Vegas now leads the Ducks 2-1.

If you missed it yesterday the preliminary rosters for Worlds are out. And speaking of Gavin McKenna, I heard on a podcast, and they've all run in together in my head, I can't remember who said this, but not some radio performer guy, a believable person...

But McKenna was not offered a roster spot on Team Canada, just a spot like the extra junior player who might get in some games. Given this legal stuff his family is facing, it's not a surprise he turned it down. The other reason he turned it down, as mentioned on the pod, is fairly silly, and kind of not. He doesn't weight much. He's a bit like Cowan at his age, not yet at his full strength, and he wants to build up now prior to the Combine. His eyes should be on next fall, but if a guy like him isn't stupidly competitive, he's not a guy like him.

Sweden is finalizing their roster in some action that continues today.

And Tinus Luc Koblar is on the Norwegian team as expected.
