Yesterday, while absolutely no one in Toronto seemed to care, the Montréal Canadiens rookies played the Ottawa Senators rookies. It looked on paper like the Sens had the better roster, and even though Montréal seems to have been clever with free agent signing goalie, Michael McNiven, they still lost the game 8-2 to a high-powered Ottawa offence. Their defence has some bright lights on it too. The Leafs are in for a bit of a rough ride today.
The roster for the Leafs this afternoon is a big question mark still. There’s illness, injury, an excess of caution about players who don’t have anything to prove, and the point of this event is not actually to win it. Not that anyone is ever happy to lose it.

Out of the Toronto roster, a lineup will be chosen for today. There aren’t roster limits here like in the NHL, so an oversized group will be dressed, and there’s a chance for everyone to get some ice time.
