Today the Maple Leafs are beginning to make room on the roster for Zach Hyman by waiving Nic Petan and Martin Marincin.

We’ll know by noon tomorrow if both of these players clear. If they do, they can be loaned  to the Marlies when necessary to make space.

But this isn’t enough. This would only reduce the roster to 21 men without Hyman, and there is not enough cap space to add him. They have to make one more cut, and if Marincin is already cut, then that means it’s a forward.

Dmytro Timashov, Nick Shore and Jason Spezza are the candidates, and one is going to have to be traded or waived before Hyman comes back. It seems like we’re aiming for the Saturday home game for that event, but stay tuned tomorrow at noon, to see what happens.
