Dmytro Timashov was claimed by the Detroit Red Wings today.

The claiming team has to keep him in the NHL, so while he looked like he was almost, but not quite, an NHL player on the Leafs, they seem to see something in him. They also will need players as they look to be selling off some forwards.

Timashov’s contract, a very low $694,444 AAV with a base salary of $700,000, expires this summer with arbitration rights.

This leaves the Leafs with 48 SPCs on the books giving them some wiggle room to make deals.
