Hockey is a business.  And it’s an ice cold business.

The Toronto Marlies are a bit short-staffed right now, particularly at centre with the team’s best man, Byron Froese, out with an injury.  Frederik Gauthier is up with the Leafs, and Sergey Kalinin seems to not be ready yet. Marc-André Cliche is injured.  Colin Smith has morphed into a winger in Sheldon Keefe’s eyes, and Colin Greening is getting time at top line centre positions as the trade deadline draws near.

The Marlies called up some Solar Bears, but they were wingers not centres.  So the lines for their 11 am game today were:

Brooks Laich, who was waived yesterday, would be in a game when that waiver period expired.

Unsurprisingly he and his $4.5 million cap hit cleared waivers, and he came out for the second period at almost exactly the stroke of noon to soldier on.
