The Toronto Furies have signed free agent forward Shiann Darkangelo, most recently of the CWHL’s Kunlun Red Star.

Darkangelo was a third-round pick for the Kunlun Red Star in the 2017 CWHL draft. She qualifies as a CWHL free agent already because the sport ambassador contracts with the Chinese teams are only one year, rather than the standard two-year North American contracts. She’s an excellent, and rather unexpected, pickup by Toronto Furies GM Sami Jo Small.

A gold medalist for Team USA at the 2016 World Championships, Darkangelo played two years in the NWHL and won an Isobel Cup with the Buffalo Beauts in 2017. Last year with Kunlun, she scored 18 points in 27 games, and added a goal against Montréal in the Clarkson Cup playoffs. She’s a great addition to the Furies’ top-six and can provide Natalie Spooner with some much-needed offensive help.

The Furies have been busy so far this week, but they still have three pre-signings to announce, so we can expect even more news before the draft.
