The Maple Leafs defeated the Sabres last night with seconds left on the clock in overtime. Auston Matthews came up with a big goal for the win, though he admitted he didn’t expect that to happen because of his own line change error.

In any case, the Leafs still won, and picked up two points in the league standings. It’s past November, but I think that still matters. The Leafs held their position at second in the Atlantic Division behind the Lightning who also won last night.

Auston Matthews wins game for Maple Leafs in 4-3 OT victory over rival Sabres

The Leafs have tonight off, but the Marlies will play in a rare Wednesday night home game. They face the Providence Bruins at 7:00 p.m. at Coca-Cola Coliseum.

Remember on Saturday the Marlies have their annual Teddy Bear toss game.

Team USA will release its preliminary WJC roster tonight. We will watch to see if any prospects from the Maple Leafs organization are included.

Someone was clearly a target last night.

This final hit is within the rules for the mechnics of the hit—obviously it was an interference play deserving a minor penalty—but what troubles me is how easily Tom Wilson’s helmet pops off. That’s why he was injured. You can see he hits his forehead on the ice when he falls. I can’t see enough detail of how he was wearing the chin strap, but it is quite alarming how easily it flew off his head. I have seen a lot of NHL players wear them questionably loose and this wouldn’t be the first instance of a helmet coming off from a hit that caused an injury.
