Thursday’s FTB: When a drought isn’t a drought

New, comments

You know that really annoying guy who over explains things? Yeah that’s me.

NHL: Stanley Cup Playoffs-San Jose Sharks at St. Louis Blues Jeff Curry-USA TODAY Sports

With the 2019 Stanley Cup Final set to begin sometime within the next month (Monday night), there’s a lot of talk going on about the contestants. The Boston Bruins are the city of Boston’s greatest hope of ending a terrible months long championship drought.

While it’s been eight years since the Bruins last won a cup, the New England Patriots won the Superbowl back in February. It’s been long dark nights for Boston sports fans.

The city of St. Louis however, has not seen any major league titles since 2011, when the St. Louis Cardinals won the World Series. Actually, no team in St. Louis has ever won a title aside from the Cardinals.

Which brings me to today’s lesson:

The city of St. Louis is in a nine year championship drought.

The St. Louis Blues however are a championship desert.

I’m being extra persnickety about this because that’s the kind of guy I am. The Blues have never won a Stanley Cup, there for they can not be in a drought.

From our good friends over at dictionary.com

noun

a period of dry weather, especially a long one that is injurious to crops.

an extended shortage:

ex: a drought of good writing.

I take that example as a shot at me.

There’s never been a shortage or extended period in St. Louis without a Stanley Cup. They never had one to begin with.

So, it’s with great.....pride?.....that I confirm that despite both teams not having won a Stanley Cup since 1967, only the Maple Leafs are in a 52 year (50 season) drought. We’re not #1 yet - that title still belongs to the New York Rangers 54 year drought.

What I’m getting at is:

Get your own thing Blues, the drought is ours.

Now, the news.

Absolutely nothing is going on.

Here’s a thing about a guy who has a job.

We’re a month away from the draft, but it just isn’t fun without a first round pick.

Here’s the jerks point of view of the AHL Eastern Conference Final

Wasn’t Brett Kulak a Leaf for lime five minutes?

I think the Leafs should work on Jake for a one year post-injury deal.

Translated interviews are usually full of good stuff.

Something something Korshkov

So many Sutters, every team has one

I mean, I guess they’re like, top five?

Enjoy your day! I’ll be off tangling with random bits of wildlife. Roosters are dangerous, man.
