First Period

The Senators were getting away with a lot of rough stuff, and so were the Leafs in the early going. The Leafs don't usually try to play that way, but they obviously figured the refs were not calling a lot of penalties, but a high stick is virtually a given:

The Leafs laid down a fantastic PK. They cleared the puck, they played keep-away, the picked it back off of Ottawa when necessary, and then Matt Knies got all fancy.

Too bad it didn't go in. Speaking of:

This hit right at the bench is a dangerous thing to do, making it doubly stupid to try one this blatant.

And he paid for it.

After one, it was 1-0 Leafs.

They had 57% Corsi on a low event 12-9, and 58% Expected Goals.

Second Period

First minute glory:

Anthony Stolarz had to do some hard work in this period.

The most annoying person you know...

Leafs with a lot of chances, but nothing that went in.

After two, it was 2-1 Leafs.

Leafs at 53% Corsi and Expected Goals so far.

Very even-looking game, with both goalies working hard.

Third Period

The Leafs relied on their bottom-six in the early going, and were rewarded with long shifts in the Ottawa zone.

And when they weren't, Stolie had it:

Morgan Rielly took an interference call for shoving Fabian Zetterlund into the net. At this point in the game sublte-ish interference doesn't get called, but something like that sure does.

The Leafs needed another good PK. I really was as good as the first one, with aggressive puck control and no real chances for the Senators. Until the end.

The Sens tied the game with seconds left in the power play.

Maximum Max! The third line had been noticeable this periiod, with Pacioretty flipped in in place of with McMann.

First playoff goal in four years.

The former Habs captain had two points in this game.

Scott Laughton hit the post on the next shift.

Two minutes left and the Sens fans think the ref will call a penalty for anything short of the most heinous act: puck over glass.

Sens pushed hard with Ullmark out of the net.

William Nylander misses the empty net by this much.

He didn't miss the second time. Happy Birthday, to the correct Nylander.

Leafs win 4-2 and the series 4-2.
