North American prospect report: Get Gordeev out of Flint

New, comments

Use your power, Leafs. Make the Firebirds trade him.

We only want the best for Toronto Maple Leafs prospects here at PPP, which is why we have one plea for the Maple Leafs: Get Fedor Gordeev out of Flint.

The Firebirds are 0-9 to start the season, the coach has already resigned, and the team is still being run by a league appointed general manager - who is also the CHL commissioner’s son. All in all, Flint is not a great situation and never has been since the Plymouth Whalers relocated three years ago which included the original head coach being fired for not playing the owner’s son enough. That owner is now suspended by the league and can have no interactions with his team.

Fedor Gordeev is the only Leafs prospect on the Firebirds, and we need him traded to a more stable franchise. Use whatever powers you have Maple Leafs. Pay the Firebirds to trade him, whatever it takes. Let’s see what Gordeev can do in a more competently run situation.

Ontario Hockey League

#11 Mac Hollowell (D) - 1G, 2A, +2
Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds - 5-3-2-0

Oct. 10th vs Flint Firebirds
W 4-1 - 0G, 1A
Oct. 12th vs Kitchener Rangers
W 4-1 - 1G, 0A, +2

Oct. 14th: vs North Bay Battalion
L 3-2 OT - 0G, 1A

Hollowell scores his first of the season, and while the Greyhounds aren’t looking as dominant as they did last year they’re still playing at a higher level than many teams.

#5 - Sean Durzi (D) - 0G, 2A, +1
Owen Sound Attack - 4-5-0-0

Oct. 12th: @ Guelph Storm
L 6-3 - 0G, 1A, -1
Oct. 13th: vs London Knights
W 4-3 - 0G, 1A, +2

Durzi gets the assists last week but with only two games played the Attack needed more from everyone to stay even.

#19 - Semyon Der-Arguchintsev (C) - 0G, 2A
Peterborough Petes - 8-2-0-0

Oct. 11th: vs Erie Otters
W 5-4 OT - 0G, 1A, -2
Oct. 12th: @ Oshawa Generals
W 2-1 - 0G, 1A
Oct. 13th: vs Windsor Spitfires
W 4-2 - No Points

SDA helped out a bit, but it was a team effort for the Petes to go 3-0 last week. As the wins start rolling in, hopefully it gets SDA more confidence to do that scoring we want to see.

#15 - Fedor Gordeev (D) - 0G, 1A, +1
Flint Firebirds - 0-9-0-0

Oct. 10th @ Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds
L 4-1 - No Points
Oct. 12th: @ North Bay Battalion
L 5-3 - No Points
Oct. 13th: vs Kitchener Rangers
L 6-3 - 0G, 1A, +1

No win, but a point for Gordeev. That’s progress, I guess.

#19 - Ryan McGregor (F) - 0G, 3A
Sarnia Sting - 4-4-1-0

Oct. 12th: @ London Knights
L 7-6 OT - 0G, 1A, -2
Oct. 13th: vs Guelph Storm
W 6-3 - 0G, 1A, +2
Oct. 14th: vs Mississauga Steelheads
L 6-2 - 0G, 1A

Three games, three assists. Though two losses letting in six and seven goals doesn’t do wonders for the Sting defence. Good thing our prospect is a centre.

Western Hockey League

#18 - Riley Stotts (C) - 1G, 1A, -1
Calgary Flames - 1-5-2-0

Oct. 12th vs Lethbridge Hurricanes
W 6-5 - 0G, 0A, -1
Oct. 14th: vs Regina Pats
L 4-3 OT - 1G, 1A

Stotts had a two point game, a highlight despite a loss and being shut out in a 6 goal game the night before. But that was the Hitmen’s first win of the season, so no points was worth it.

Filip Kral (D)
Spokane Chiefs - 4-2-0-2

Oct. 12th @ Swift Current Broncos
W 4-1 - Did Not Play
Oct. 13th: @ Moose Jaw Warriors
L 4-3 - Did Not Play

Kral is still nursing an injury, poor guy.

#33 - Ian Scott (G) - 54sv, 57sh, 0.947sv%
Prince Albert Raiders - 10-1-0-0

Oct. 13th: vs Red Deer Rebels
W 2-1 - 28sv, 29sh, 0.966sv%
Oct. 14th: @ Saskatoon Blades
W 6-2 - 26sv, 28sh, 0.929sv%

Another week, another set of amazing performances from Scott. Too bad the Leafs can’t call him up.

Quebec Major Junior Hockey League

Zachary Bouthillier (G) - 41sv, 49sh, 0.837sv%
Chicoutimi Sagueens - 5-3-1-1

Oct. 10th: @ Rimouski Oceanic
W 5-4 - 28sv, 32sh, 0.875
Oct. 12th: @ Sherbrooke Phoenix
W 3-1 - Did Not Play
Oct. 13th: @ Shawinigan Cataractes
L 4-3 - 13sv, 17sh, 0.765sv% (played 38:19)

Bouthillier played two of three, but his final outing of the week was awful. He was pulled as the second period ended after giving up four goals on 17 shots.

USHL

#14 - JD Greenway (D) - 1G, 0A, -1
Dubuque Fighting Saints - 3-1-1-0

Oct. 12th: @ Lincoln Stars
W 5-3 - 1G, 0A
Oct. 13th: @ Omaha Lancers
W 7-2 - 0G, 0A, -1

Greenway scored his first USHL goal of the season, and now he has two points!

NCAA

#31 - Joseph Woll (G) - 40sv, 48sh, 0.833sv%
Boston College Eagles
Overall: 0-2 / Conference: 0-0

Oct. 12th: @ Wisconsin
L 3-0 - 20sv, 22sh, 0.909sv% (played 59:37)
Oct. 13th: @ Wisconsin
L 7-5 - 20sv, 26sh, 0.769sv% (played 57:45)

The Eagles season didn’t start off very well. Woll never played a full game and was just about atrocious. BC needs to step up it’s game before the conference games start.

#8 - Dakota Joshua (F) / #24 - Ryan O’Connell (D)
1G, 0A / 0G, 0A, +1
Ohio State Buckeyes
Overall: 2-0 / Conference: 0-0

Oct 12th: @ Arizona State
W 3-2 - 1G, 0A / 0G, 0A, +1
Oct. 13th: @ Arizona State
W 3-0 - No Points / No Points

The Buckeyes beat Arizona 6-2 total but our prospects weren’t the stars of the show.
