North American prospects update: Flint is a disaster that keeps getting worse

New, comments

Fold the team and save these players.

Terry Wilson / OHL Images

Last time we had a prospect update - before I went on vacation - I wrote about the tire fire that is the Flint Firebirds organization, and things have gone from worse to worser.

I’m not even talking about the Firebirds going winless in 14 straight games to start the season, but now they’re not even icing a full team.

This is absolutely disgraceful from a team that no one thought could get worse. You would think that having the CHL commissioner’s son in charge would at least give the front office the competence to ice a full team, but I guess not.

The Toronto Maple Leafs need to rid themselves of this team and demand that Fedor Gordeev be traded. I don’t care if they don’t actually have the power, they’re the goddamn Toronto Maple Leafs and they can do whatever the hell they want.

Everyone needs to tell the Leafs to #GetGordeevOut.

On a positive note, goalie prospect Ian Scott has been named the CHL goaltender of the month for October:

So far this season Scott has posted 1.57GAA and a 0.943sv% in 14 games. He’s off to an amazing start and he’s taken the Raiders to the top of the CHL rankings.

Ontario Hockey League

Oct. 28th: @ Guelph Storm
L 4-3 OT - 0G, 1A, -2

Hollowell has been performing excellently the past few weeks - he added 10 points to his total in the past seven games and the Greyhounds only lost once in that time frame.

#5 - Sean Durzi (D) - 0G, 6A, +8
Owen Sound Attack - 8-6-0-1

Oct. 17: vs Hamilton Bulldogs

Oct. 27th: vs Peterborough Petes
W 5-2 - Did Not Play
Oct. 28th: vs Windsor Spitfires
L 6-1 - Did Not Play

Sean Durzi left the game against Peterborough and sat out the next two. There’s no official word on what exactly is keeping him out, but hopefully a few days off this week does him some good.

#19 - Semyon Der-Arguchintsev (C) - 0G, 1A, -4
Peterborough Petes - 9-7-0-0

Oct. 18th: vs Oshawa Generals
L 4-1 - 0G, 1A, -1

Oct. 25th: vs Sudbury Wolves
W 5-2 - 0G, 2A, +2
Oct. 27th: @ Owen Sound Attack
L 5-2 - 0G, 1A

SDA and PBO aren’t having a great time lately, losing five of their last six. Semyon isn’t lighting things up either, with just one point the past couple of weeks.

#15 - Fedor Gordeev (D) - 0G, 5A, -2
Flint Firebirds - 0-14-1-0

Oct. 20th: @ Saginaw Spirit
L 6-0 - 0G, 0A, -1

Just....just get Fedor out of this freaking mess.

#19 - Ryan McGregor (F) - 3G, 4A
Sarnia Sting - 7-6-1-0

L 6-3 - 1G, 0A, -3
Oct. 21st: vs London Knights
L 4-2 - 0G, 2A, +1

Oct. 27th: @ Flint Firebirds
W 6-5 OT - 1G, 0A
Oct. 28th: vs Saginaw Spirit
W 5-3 - 0G, 1A

Sarnia went on a hot streak last week after going winless the week before. McGregor is stepping up in his role as captain, netting seven points in the past five games.

Western Hockey League

#18 - Riley Stotts (C) - Injured

L 3-1 - Did Not Play
Oct. 26th: vs Lethbridge Hurricanes
L 7-6 - Did Not Play
Oct. 28th: vs Saskatoon Blades
L 5-3 - Did Not Play

Stotts was injured in the Oct. 16th game from a hit by Max Martin. Martin was suspended three games by the WHL for the hit.

#18 - Filip Kral (D) - No Points
Spokane Chiefs - 8-4-1-2

Oct. 16th: @ Brandon Wheat Kings
W 6-4 - Did Not Play
Oct. 17th: @ Regina Pats
W 4-0 - Did Not Play

W 4-1 - Did Not Play
Oct. 27th: vs Tri-City Americans
L 5-3 - Did Not Play
Oct. 30th: vs Seattle Thunderbirds
W 4-1 - No Points

Kral made his season debut against the Thunderbirds on Tuesday night. He had four shots on goal, but no points. It’s okay, Filip, take it slow.

#33 - Ian Scott (G) - 100sv, 106sh, 0.943sv%, 1SO
Prince Albert Raiders - 15-1-0-0

Oct. 16th: vs Calgary Hitmen
W 8-4 - Did Not Play
Oct. 20th: vs Spokane Chiefs
W 8-2 - 32sv, 34sh, 0.941sv%

W 4-2 - 25sv, 27sh, 0.926sv%
Oct. 27th: vs Regina Pats
W 6-2 - 19sv, 21sh, 0.905sv%

Goalie of the month. That’s alright.

Quebec Major Junior Hockey League

Zachary Bouthillier (G) - 68sv, 75sh, 0.907sv%
Chicoutimi Sagueens - 7-4-1-3

Oct. 18th: vs Quebec Remparts
W 5-2 - Did Not Play
Oct. 20th: vs Victoriaville Tigres
W 3-0 - Did Not Play
Oct. 21st: vs Rouyn-Noranda Huskies
L 4-3 SO - 34sv, 37sh, 0.919sv%
Oct. 26th: vs Baie-Comeau Drakkar
L 4-3 SO - Did Not Play
Oct. 27th: @ Baie-Comeau Drakkar
L 4-1 - 34sv, 38sh, 0.895sv%

Bouthillier is doing his best with all the shots his defense is giving up. The Sagueens back up didn’t get a win but faced almost 40 shots per game when he did suit up. Chicoutimi needs to work on their defense.

USHL

#14 - JD Greenway (D) - 1G, 5A, -1
Dubuque Fighting Saints - 5-4-1-1

Oct. 17th: @ Cedar Rapids Roughriders
W 5-2 - 0G, 1A
Oct. 19th: vs Youngstown Phantoms
L 4-3 SO - 1G, 0A, +1
Oct. 21st: @ Green Bay Gamblers
L 1-0 - 0G, 0A, -1
Oct. 26th: @ Youngstown Phantoms
L 6-3 - 0G, 1A, -1
Oct. 27th: @ Team USA
W 6-3 - 0G, 2A
Oct. 28th: @ Team USA
L 8-3 - 0G, 1A

Greenway has been performing well for his age/position in the USHL, but we could be seeing more from him. As he adjusts from leaving college to going back to junior hockey, hopefully his game picks up a bit more offensively.

NCAA

#31 - Joseph Woll (G) - 32sv, 37sh, 0.865sv%
Boston College Eagles

Oct. 19th: @ Quinnipac
L 1-0 - 25sv, 26sh, 0.962sv%
Oct. 25th: vs St. Cloud State
L 7-0 - 7sv, 11sh, 0.636sv% (32:25 played)

Not a great start for Boston College, as they are now 0-4. Judging by the last couple of games the team’s strategy is to let Woll do all the work. That won’t fly when in-conference games begin.

#8 - Dakota Joshua (F) / Ryan O’Connell (D)
1G, 0A, -4 / 0G, 0A, -1
Ohio State Buckeyes

Oct. 19th: vs U-Mass
L 6-3 - 1G, 0A / 0G, 0A, -2
Oct. 20th: vs U-Mass
W 3-1 - 0G, 0A, -1 / No Points
Oct. 26th: vs Bowling Green
L 8-2 - 0G, 0A, -3 / No Points
Oct. 27th @ Bowling Green
T 2-2 - No Points / 0G, 0A, +1

Ohio State is in the same boat as BC, where’s the offense guys?

The first month of the season (plus a bit of September) is now over. Are the players where you’d want them to be?
