The Toronto Marlies made some mid-summer waves today with the signing of goaltender Cal Heeter.

No details have been provided, of course, so we don’t know if this is a one-way or two-way AHL deal.  Heeter played last season in both the AHL and ECHL, so he could be the perfect tweener to give depth on the Marlies and very much needed help on the Solar Bears.  His AHL experience includes 12 games with the Calder Cup champion Grand Rapids Griffins.

Heeter is 28 and from St. Louis, and this is a return of sorts: He played one game on the Marlies two years ago while on a PTO.

He’s been around, Europe, NCAA, the ECHL, and he played one game for the Philadelphia Flyers.
